The One Who Does Everything
On being capable, and what it quietly turns into.
Have you noticed there's often one person in a family who just... does everything?
Nobody even needs to ask.
"I'll book it." "I'll sort it." "I'll call them." "Don't worry, I'll do it."
And everybody thinks she's incredibly capable.
She probably is.
But here's the bit I find interesting.
When you do that for long enough, being capable can quietly become being responsible for everything.
And eventually, people stop asking whether you want to do it.
But sometimes, you stop asking yourself too.
That's when a behaviour has started becoming an identity.
You're not just capable anymore. You've become "the one who takes care of everything."
And maybe the question isn't, "How do I stop being capable?"
It's: what am I carrying simply because I've always carried it?
